Boat Description
Aquastar 48 Azure: Classic Style, Pedigree Hull
1. General Information
The Aquastar 48 Azure is a refined, distinctive and supremely capable motor yacht that offers a genuine alternative to the look-alike 50-foot production cruisers. Measuring 14.63 m overall with a 4.57 m beam and a modest 1.22 m draft, it pairs classic Aquastar styling with a pedigree hull that is equally happy trolling at 5 knots or running fast across the speed range. With twin Volvo Penta D9 diesels it cruises at 18 knots and tops out at 26 knots, and 2,200 litres of fuel give a range of around 450 nautical miles at 10 knots.
Accommodation centres on a forward V-berth cabin with its own bathroom and a generous aft owner's cabin, joined by a practical galley with Corian surfaces and a comfortable wheelhouse saloon. It is a yacht for owners who cruise seriously, whether crossing the Channel or riding out a Mediterranean Mistral.
2. Construction and Design
The 48 is built around Aquastar's renowned GRP hull, a design trusted by professional pilot boat operators, and the yard leads the class in offering twin shaft drive. Engines sit on flexible mounts with bronze P-brackets, hydraulic steering and trim tabs, and the hull keeps its composure in a head sea without the pounding of a pure planing boat. Technology first developed for larger Aquastar superyachts, such as stabilisers, has been brought down to this model to turn an already fine ride into an exceptionally steady one.
The interior was designed by Ken Freivokh and is built bespoke to each owner. Matched teak bulkheads, teak-framed doors and lockers, GRP interior modules and marine-grade carpets create a warm, traditional atmosphere, with a pressurised hot and cold water system fed by a 12-gallon calorifier.
3. Key Features
Pilot-boat pedigree hull: A proven hull chosen by professional operators for safe, comfortable handling in rough water.
Wide speed range: Comfortable from 5-knot trolling speed to a fast cruise, with range of about 450 nm at 10 knots.
Stabiliser option: Wesmar stabilisers bring superyacht-level steadiness to a 48-foot cruiser.
Flexible aft cockpit: Optional twin electric sunroofs and side enclosures turn the aft deck into an all-weather dining area.
Freivokh interior: A bespoke teak interior by Ken Freivokh, customised to each owner's taste.
4. Summary
The Aquastar 48 Azure is aimed at experienced owners and families who want a seaworthy, individual motor yacht rather than a mass-produced cruiser. It suits extended coastal and offshore cruising in northern waters and the Mediterranean alike, and appeals to buyers who value a steady ride, long range and bespoke craftsmanship.
