Boat Description
Aquastar 49 Azure: Elegance, Strength and Integrity
1. General Information
The Aquastar 49 Azure is a graceful, robust and beautifully balanced flybridge motor yacht that succeeded the much-loved Aquastar 48 in 2013. At 14.94 m overall with a 4.57 m beam, it keeps the traditional Aquastar seaboat look while adding contemporary touches, a sleek aft deck hard top with twin sunroofs and side canopies, and a flybridge command position with seating and a teak table. Low midship freeboard makes stepping aboard easy, and the boat can be handled by just one or two people thanks to remote-controlled bow and stern thrusters.
Below, a forward cabin with a scissor-action double that splits into two singles and a magnificent panoramic aft owner's cabin each have their own heads and separate shower. Amidships, owners can choose a third cabin with bunks, a dinette or an office. Twin Volvo Penta D9 diesels of 500 hp, around 2,270 litres of fuel and roughly 1,180 litres of fresh water make it a genuine long-distance cruiser.
2. Construction and Design
The 49 rides on Aquastar's celebrated semi-displacement GRP hull, originally drawn by Arthur Mursell and proven for decades on commercial boats, with styling by Design Unlimited. Midship engines and fuel tanks keep weight central for a soft ride in a head sea, and the good balance of beam and length plus a slippery hull shape keep fuel consumption low. A keel allows the boat to take the ground, and the panoramic aft cabin windows use engineered glass over 25 mm thick.
Interiors are custom built at the Guernsey yard in teak, cherry or light oak with five coats of varnish, Corian vanities and a galley with space for a dishwasher and washing machine. Owners work with the yard's stylists to create a co-ordinated, personal look.
3. Key Features
Proven semi-displacement hull: A hull with a fearsome reputation for sea-keeping that avoids the slamming of planing designs.
Panoramic aft master cabin: Large engineered-glass hull windows create a bright, spacious owner's suite.
Flybridge and dual helm: Upper helm with seating and table, plus an optional saloon helm for bad weather.
Short-handed handling: Remote bow and stern thrusters let one or two people manage the boat with ease.
Flexible drive and comfort options: Twin shafts as standard, single-shaft hybrid on request and optional hydraulic fin stabilisers.
4. Summary
The Aquastar 49 Azure is for owners who want a timeless, bespoke flybridge motor yacht with true offshore ability. Couples and families who cruise from northern waters to the Balearics will appreciate its steady ride, economical running, short-handed manoeuvrability and a palatial aft cabin that sets it apart from production rivals.
