Boat Description
Aquastar 65 Explorer: A Little Ship Built for the Oceans
1. General Information
The Aquastar 65 Explorer is a handsome, long-range flybridge motor yacht designed for owners ready to swap weekend boating for true extended cruising. At around 19.8 m with a broad 5.87 m beam, its upright day saloon windows give a superyacht look, and it was conceived to sit between the Aquastar 47 and the flagship 74. Around 1,500 gallons of fuel and 500 gallons of water, with twin Caterpillar C12 diesels of 700 hp, give the autonomy to explore Scandinavia, the Greek Islands, the Great Lakes or the Caribbean.
The owner's suite sits aft, away from the guests, with an aft-facing king-size bed that looks out through panoramic transom windows. Forward are a VIP cabin with king-size bed and en-suite and two midship guest cabins, served by a day head, with an optional crew cabin. A single-level saloon, skylounge seating, a gourmet galley, a spacious flybridge and a large aft deck for alfresco dining make it a true sea-going home.
2. Construction and Design
The 65 uses Aquastar's non-slamming semi-displacement hull, with a keel below the propellers for protection and directional stability and a transom shaped for fuel economy. The GRP hull and superstructure are built to Lloyd's Register recommendations with isophthalic gelcoat, woven reinforcement and balsa-cored topsides, divided by watertight bulkheads and with a walk-in engine room behind a watertight door.
Ken Freivokh designed the interior, finished in cherry or teak with cedar-lined lockers, Corian worktops, leather saloon seating and individual climate control in every cabin. A hydraulic passerelle, dinghy crane, bow thruster, 19 kW generator and 70,000 BTU air conditioning complete a very complete specification.
3. Key Features
Aft owner's suite: Private master cabin with an aft-facing bed and panoramic transom windows.
Long-range tankage: About 1,500 gallons of fuel for extended passages without daily refuelling.
Walk-in engine room: Engine checks without lifting the saloon floor, plus a workbench and spares stowage.
Protected running gear: A keel below the propellers adds safety when exploring new cruising grounds.
Ken Freivokh interior: Elegant, hand-crafted joinery from an award-winning designer.
4. Summary
The Aquastar 65 Explorer is made for experienced couples and families who dream of liveaboard cruising and long passages with friends aboard. It suits buyers who want a well-found, owner-operable yacht with real range, a private owner's suite and a hand-built interior, rather than a mass-produced planing cruiser.
