Boat Description
Aquastar 70/74 Explorer: Award-Winning Ocean Cruiser
1. General Information
The Aquastar 70/74 Explorer is a commanding, long-range flybridge motor yacht and a former Motor Cruiser of the Year, built in Guernsey for owners with exploration in mind. Offered at 70 or 74 ft on a 5.87 m beam, it carries more than 2,000 gallons of fuel, 500 gallons of water and a watermaker, so it can cross seas and cruise remote coasts in comfort. Twin Caterpillar 3406E diesels of 811 hp give about 20 knots, with 1,000 hp and 1,500 hp options for up to 30 knots.
Four cabins sleep eight: a full-width owner's suite, a forward VIP with en-suite, a starboard aft cabin and a midship twin, with four heads and a laundry room. The MK II layout adds a crew cabin aft with its own entry. A pilot house with dual side doors, walk-round teak side decks, a large flybridge with barbecue and a sheltered aft deck complete a true sea-going home.
2. Construction and Design
The hull places a keel below the propellers for protection and directional stability, with a transom designed for fuel savings that has won over many professional operators. It is moulded in GRP to Lloyd's Register recommendations, with balsa-cored topsides, five watertight bulkheads, a walk-in engine room behind a watertight door and a proper bilge pumping arrangement, drawing on the yard's experience building trawlers and maxi yachts.
Ken Freivokh raised the interior detailing to true superyacht standard, with cherry or teak joinery, cedar-lined lockers, Corian worktops and climate control in every cabin. Bow and stern thrusters, a hydraulic passerelle, tender garage in the transom, twin generators and a full electronics package make it operable by just two people.
3. Key Features
Ocean-going range: Over 2,000 gallons of fuel plus a 600-gallon-per-day watermaker for true autonomy.
Award-winning design: A former Motor Cruiser of the Year with a Ken Freivokh superyacht-standard interior.
Five watertight bulkheads: Commercial-grade compartmentation and a walk-in engine room for safety and maintenance.
Flexible power: From economical 811 hp twins at 20 knots to 1,500 hp for around 30 knots.
Crew option: MK II layout with a separate aft crew cabin for longer voyages.
4. Summary
The Aquastar 70/74 Explorer is aimed at experienced owners planning extended, blue-water cruising with family and guests. It suits buyers who want a robust, hand-built yacht with long range, four cabins and superyacht detailing, yet still manageable without a large crew.
