Boat Overview

Boat Description

Aquila 28 Molokai: Born from the Pacific, Built to Fish

1. General Information

The Aquila 28 Molokai is a rugged, nimble and highly capable centre-console power catamaran, the open sibling of the 28 Molokai Cuddy and the boat that launched Aquila's Offshore line in December 2021. Measuring 9.38 m overall with a 2.96 m beam, its hull was inspired by outrigger canoe racing across the Hawaiian channel between Maui and Molokai, and it is built to handle Pacific swell and short Atlantic chop with equal poise.

A broad stance makes it easy to walk right around the console, while well-placed controls give the skipper a 360-degree view. The fishing kit is serious: two insulated fish boxes totalling 712 L, a 113 L livewell, a rigging station with sink and cutting board, and two FRP-lined deck lockers. When the rods are stowed, the split bow seating takes ten or more guests for sandbar days, tow sports and dockside dining, and 570 L of fuel in twin aluminium tanks gives useful offshore range.

2. Construction and Design

Aquila builds the 28 Molokai with vinylester resin infusion for the hull, deck, cockpit floor and bulkheads over an infused fibreglass structural grid, finished in white gelcoat and covered by a five-year hull and deck structural warranty. Each hull is split into four separate compartments that can be individually drained or isolated, adding a valuable margin of safety offshore.

The builder claims the highest tunnel clearance in its class, creating a better air cushion and reducing hull slap when trolling. A central transom walkthrough with door, a removable boarding ladder, a fibreglass hardtop with dedicated radar and antenna mounts, and a fixed windshield with wiper make it equally practical for anglers, divers and families.

3. Key Features

Proven Hawaiian hull: Developed in rough island channels for a stable, dry and confident ride offshore.

360-degree fishability: Wide side decks let anglers walk right around the centre console.

Serious fish storage: Twin insulated fish boxes, a 113 L livewell and generous tackle storage.

Versatile bow seating: Split bow seating with storage below seats ten or more guests.

Twin outboards: Twin Mercury 150 hp as standard, with optional twin 225 hp.

4. Summary

The Aquila 28 Molokai is aimed at anglers, divers, tournament competitors and charter operators who want a tough, stable and dry offshore catamaran, as well as families looking for a versatile day boat. It suits owners who value seakeeping, safety and open deck space in a compact centre console that is simple to run and maintain.
