The Aquila 28 Molokai Cuddy is a rugged, efficient and highly versatile offshore power catamaran with roots in Hawaiian waters. Measuring 9.38 m overall with a 2.96 m beam, it pairs a proven Molokai hull with a forward cuddy that gives shelter from the elements while keeping a generous open cockpit for passengers, fishing, diving or event support work.

The cuddy offers a cushioned bunk across its forward end, storage below and a hinged floor for an optional portable toilet, while the protected helm keeps the skipper comfortable when the weather turns. Two fish boxes totalling 712 L and a 113 L livewell support serious fishing, and twin aluminium fuel tanks hold 570 L in total. Options include an extended hardtop, roof racks and centre seating.

2. Construction and Design

Aquila builds the 28 Molokai Cuddy with vinylester resin infusion for the hull, deck, cockpit floor and bulkheads over an infused fibreglass structural grid, finished in white gelcoat and backed by a five-year hull and deck structural warranty. Each hull is divided into four separate compartments that can be individually drained or isolated, adding a valuable safety margin offshore.

The design is all about seakeeping and practicality. The builder claims the highest tunnel clearance in its class, which improves the air cushion and reduces hull slap when trolling; the hull is shaped for a dry ride offshore; and a central transom walkthrough with a removable door gives direct access to the water between the engines.
