Boat Description
Aquila 42 Yacht: Accessible Luxury on Two Hulls
1. General Information
The Aquila 42 Yacht is the entry point to Aquila's flybridge Yacht series, offering big-boat living in a compact 12.64 m power catamaran. Designed by VPLP Design and launched at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show, it won the 2024 Yacht Style Awards power catamaran under 15 m category. Its 6.4 m beam delivers interior volume that feels dramatically larger than monohulls of similar length, and CE Category A certification gives the confidence to roam offshore.
The standard layout offers two double cabins, each with a private head and separate walk-in shower, plus a utility cabin with a single berth that can become a double; optional three- and four-cabin versions sleep up to eight. The bright salon has U-shaped seating around a table that converts into a single berth, and the galley provides a two-burner induction hob, convection microwave and fridge-freezer. Three alfresco areas, the flybridge, aft cockpit and a large foredeck sun pad, make entertaining easy, while 1,000 L of fuel supports relaxed coastal cruising.
2. Construction and Design
Construction uses resin-infused vinylester for the hull, deck and bulkheads, creating a strong, stiff and corrosion-resistant structure, with cores of varying density and watertight bulkheads fore and aft. Separately moulded bulbous bows, propeller tunnels, four-blade bronze propellers and sacrificial skegs underline VPLP's focus on seakeeping, efficiency and protection of the running gear.
Large windows with external overhangs give excellent all-round visibility while reducing glare and heat. Panelled ceilings with LED accent lighting, Corian worktops, memory-foam mattresses and wear-resistant wood-look synthetic flooring create a light, contemporary interior. An optional interior helm adds comfort in poor weather, and the flybridge can be reached from both the cockpit and the bow.
3. Key Features
VPLP-designed twin hulls: Bulbous bows and propeller tunnels deliver stable, efficient running with a modest draft of about 1.10 m.
Three alfresco zones: A hardtop flybridge with wet bar and table for six, an aft cockpit with hinged galley window, and a cushioned foredeck.
Flexible layouts: Two, three or four cabins, with up to three heads with separate showers.
Efficient diesel power: Standard twin Volvo Penta D4 230 hp, with optional D4 300 hp, D4 320 hp or Yanmar 370 hp engines.
Ocean certification: CE Category A for eight people and up to 24 passengers in sheltered waters.
4. Summary
The Aquila 42 Yacht is ideal for couples and young families taking their first step into flybridge power catamaran ownership, as well as charter operators seeking a compact yet spacious platform. It meets the need for stable, comfortable cruising with plenty of entertaining space, private en-suite cabins and ocean capability, at a size that remains easy to handle and berth.
