Boat Description
Aquila 45 Sail: Room to Gather, Freedom to Roam
1. General Information
The Aquila 45 Sail is a spacious, sociable and easy-handling cruising catamaran, the second model in Aquila's new sailing range after the 50 Sail. It made its world debut at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival and measures 14.38 m overall with a generous 7.77 m beam, giving it remarkable living volume for its length. Preliminary CE Category A certification for 12 people makes it a capable bluewater platform for private owners and charter fleets alike.
Four connected living zones flow from bow to transom: a fixed bow cockpit with seating and a sun pad in place of the usual trampoline, an open flybridge lounge with U-shaped seating beside a two-seat helm, and an aft cockpit that seats eight around the table, with a bar linking it to the galley through a sliding window. Below, three- or four-cabin layouts give every guest a private entrance, en-suite head and walk-in shower, sleeping up to 12. With 880 L of fresh water and 670 L of fuel, the 45 Sail is provisioned for genuine autonomy.
2. Construction and Design
Aquila builds the 45 Sail with resin-infused vinylester throughout the hull, deck, bulkheads and reinforcements, PVC cores of varying density and no plywood in structural components or below the waterline. Watertight bulkheads fore and aft add security, while large interior furniture panels use lightweight PET cores to save weight and sharpen sailing performance.
The two-spreader anodised aluminium mast carries a full-batten pin-top mainsail of 78 m² and a 47.58 m² furling genoa, for 125.6 m² of upwind sail area; a square-top main and a 95 m² Code 0 are optional. Bridge-to-bow stairs and clear sightlines from the partially raised helm make short-handed sailing straightforward, while panoramic Perspex windows fill the salon with light.
3. Key Features
Fixed bow cockpit: A true social space with seating and a sun pad replaces the trampoline, adding a fourth living zone.
Private en-suite cabins: Three or four cabins, each with its own entrance, head and walk-in shower, and no shared hallways.
Easy short-handed sailing: A German mainsheet system, Harken winches and Spinlock clutches keep the controls close to the helm.
Flexible propulsion: Twin Volvo Penta 50 hp saildrives as standard, with optional Volvo Penta 60 hp or Yanmar 57 hp units.
Bluewater-ready: Preliminary CE Category A for 12 people, with room for up to 30 passengers in sheltered waters.
4. Summary
The Aquila 45 Sail is aimed at cruising couples, families and charter operators who want the comfort and space of a larger catamaran in a package that is simple to sail with a small crew. It suits owners planning extended coastal or bluewater cruising who value private en-suite cabins, generous social areas and a fresh, modern approach to sailing catamaran design.
