Boat Description
Axis T22: Big Wakes, Classic Lines, Smart Value
1. General Information
The Axis T22 is a compact, capable and refreshingly affordable ski and wakeboard boat from Axis, the value-focused sister brand of Malibu Boats. Produced until the 2021 model year, it measures 6.71 m overall with a 2.59 m beam and a shallow 0.69 m draft, and carries up to 15 people. The "T" denotes its traditional, pointed bow, which gives the boat a sharp, sporty profile while keeping the running surface tuned for towing.
This is a day boat built around watersports rather than overnight cruising: there are no cabins, and the layout is given over to a wraparound rear lounge, bow seating and generous storage for boards, ropes and life jackets. A weight of around 1,905 kg and a modest fuel tank make it easy to tow behind a family vehicle and economical across a full day of wakeboarding, wakesurfing, skiing and tubing. Ideal users are families and groups of friends who want genuine wake performance without stepping up to a larger, pricier tow boat.
2. Construction and Design
Built in fibreglass on Axis's Wake Plus monohull, the T22 benefits from Malibu's engineering and production know-how while keeping specification and price in check. Standard power comes from a 360 hp Malibu Monsoon M5Di petrol inboard driving through a V-drive, which places the engine aft and frees up open space in the cockpit; more powerful Monsoon options of around 400 to 410 hp were also fitted.
The interior favours durable, easy-clean vinyl upholstery and practical, well-padded seating for riders and spectators alike. A walk-through windscreen connects the bow area to the main cockpit, and the helm is laid out for clear sightlines to the rider, which matters when driving for surfers and wakeboarders.
3. Key Features
Traditional bow: a pointed bow gives the T22 its sporty look and a crisp, predictable ride in chop.
Wake-shaping technology: Surf Gate and the hydrofoil Wedge, available as on Malibu's larger boats, let the driver switch surf sides and adjust the wake on the fly.
V-drive inboard power: a Malibu Monsoon petrol engine delivers strong pull for deep-water starts and a heavily weighted wake.
Room for 15: bow seating and a wraparound lounge seat a full crew on a hull that stays easy to tow and store.
4. Summary
The Axis T22 suits buyers stepping into the premium wake-boat world for the first time: families, lake-house owners and riding groups who want Malibu-grade surf and wake performance in a size that is simple to trail, launch and garage. It is a well-priced, sociable and fun-focused towboat that rewards anyone who spends summer days behind the boat rather than lounging aboard it.
