Boat Description
Back Cove 372: Classic Downeast, Refined for Today
1. General Information
The Back Cove 372 is an elegant, single-diesel Downeast motor yacht, introduced in 2021 as the thoroughly updated successor to the long-running Back Cove 37. Measuring 13.00 m overall with a 4.04 m beam and a modest 1.09 m draft, she is sized for couples and small families who want to cruise the coast for long weekends or several weeks in genuine comfort. A single 600 hp diesel, either a Volvo Penta D8 or a Cummins QSC 8.3, delivers a quiet cruise in the mid-twenties and a top speed of around 30 knots, while 1,136 L of fuel gives a useful range of roughly 300 nautical miles at a brisk pace.
Life aboard centres on the bright, enclosed helm deck, where a mid galley with induction hob, convection microwave and drawer fridge-freezer faces an L-shaped dinette that converts into a double berth. Below, an owner's stateroom with island queen berth, a guest cabin and a head with a separate shower stall make extended cruising easy and private.
2. Construction and Design
Back Cove builds the 372 in Maine using vacuum resin infusion, with a foam-cored hull bottom, a foam-cored stringer grid and a balsa-cored deck for a strong, stiff and comparatively light structure. An advanced propeller-pocket hull keeps draft and running angle down. The update brought a lighter, more efficient 24 V electrical system, a redesigned low-glare helm with better sightlines, frameless direct-bonded pilothouse windows and a centre-opening windscreen for fresh air underway.
Inside, varnished American cherry joinery, a teak-and-holly style sole and padded headliners create a warm, traditional ambience, while a 9 kW generator and reverse-cycle air conditioning come as standard for year-round comfort.
3. Key Features
Efficient single diesel: a choice of 600 hp Volvo Penta or Cummins power combines a 30-knot top end with economical, quiet cruising.
Joystick bow thruster: standard thruster control makes close-quarters manoeuvring simple for a couple handling the boat alone.
Refined helm: improved ergonomics, reduced glare and clean sightlines make long passages more relaxed.
Two-cabin layout: an island queen owner's stateroom, a guest cabin and a convertible dinette sleep family and friends.
Spacious head: a separate shower stall with moulded seat and generous storage suits longer stays aboard.
4. Summary
The Back Cove 372 suits experienced owners and couples who want classic Downeast looks with modern systems and the simplicity of a single engine. She appeals to buyers planning coastal passages and extended summer cruises, who value craftsmanship, a quiet ride and a layout that comfortably hosts occasional guests.
