Boat Description
Back Cove 39O: Fast, Quiet and Fully Enclosed
1. General Information
The Back Cove 39O is a fast, refined and remarkably quiet outboard-powered Downeast yacht, launched in 2020 as the larger sister to the 34O. At 13.26 m overall with a 4.11 m beam and a shallow 0.71 m hull draft, she pairs genuine cruising accommodation with exhilarating performance. Triple Mercury V8 Verado 300 hp outboards are standard, while optional triple V10 400 hp or twin V12 600 hp packages deliver top speeds of around 45 knots; with 1,968 L of fuel, a range of more than 300 miles is achievable.
Her fully enclosed, climate-controlled helm deck, rare in this class, stretches the boating season into spring and autumn. A galley-up layout and flexible dinette keep everyone together, and the spacious cockpit offers an aft settee with a teak table. Below, an owner's stateroom with island berth, a guest cabin with two single berths and a lower lounge with Smart TV, plus a head with separate shower, make longer family stays easy.
2. Construction and Design
The 39O uses Back Cove's TRELIS (Trailing Edge Lifting Surface) modified-V planing hull for a smooth, efficient ride at speed. The hull is vacuum resin infused with foam cores in the bottom and topsides, supported by a foam-cored stringer system with integrated tapping plates for an optional gyro stabiliser. Frameless direct-bonded windows, a four-panel locking salon door and port and starboard boarding gates add practicality.
Inside, varnished cherry joinery, cherry hull ceilings and a teak-and-holly style sole create a warm, crafted interior, backed by a 9 kW generator and reverse-cycle air conditioning for year-round comfort.
3. Key Features
Enclosed, climate-controlled helm deck: comfortable cruising in cool or wet weather extends the season.
Multiple outboard packages: triple or twin Mercury Verado options reach around 45 knots.
TRELIS hull: efficient planing and a soft ride make long, fast runs relaxing.
Two-cabin layout: an island-berth owner's cabin and a twin-berth guest cabin with lounge suit families.
Stabiliser-ready structure: integrated tapping plates simplify fitting a gyro stabiliser for extra comfort at anchor.
4. Summary
The Back Cove 39O is aimed at owners who want speed and range without sacrificing comfort or classic Downeast style. She suits families and couples who cruise in changeable climates, value an all-weather helm deck and want room for guests, all with the easy maintenance of outboard power.
