Boat Description
Back Cove 412: Downeast Luxury, Reimagined
1. General Information
The Back Cove 412 is a spacious, refined single-engine Downeast motor yacht, reintroduced in 2025 as a comprehensive evolution of the popular Back Cove 41. Measuring 14.05 m overall with a 4.27 m beam and a 1.14 m draft, she offers two private staterooms and two heads, making her an outstanding choice for couples who host family and friends on longer coastal cruises. A Volvo Penta D8 600 hp diesel is standard, with an optional Volvo D11 725 hp package featuring Slow Speed Mode for gentle, precise manoeuvring; with the D11 she runs at around 27 knots at continuous cruise and tops out near 29 knots.
The galley-up helm deck combines an induction hob, fridge-freezer and microwave with a convertible dinette and a mate's lounge, all wrapped in large pilothouse windows. Below, an owner's stateroom with island queen berth and a guest cabin with its own queen berth share an owner's head with separate shower, while a day head serves guests. With 1,514 L of fuel and 568 L of water, she is equipped for genuine range.
2. Construction and Design
Built in Maine with vacuum resin infusion, foam-cored hull bottom and stringers and a balsa-cored deck, the 412 keeps the proven hull shape of the 41 with its efficient propeller pocket. The update introduced frameless direct-bonded pilothouse windows with black mullions for low glare, a full-height helm door, a powered sliding salon window, remote fuel tank switching and improved engine room access and sound insulation.
Varnished cherry joinery, teak-and-holly style soles, cedar-lined lockers and quality mattresses create a calm, traditional interior, supported by a 9 kW generator and reverse-cycle air conditioning.
3. Key Features
Bow and stern thrusters: joystick-controlled thrusters at both ends make docking a single-engine yacht of this size effortless.
Two staterooms, two heads: queen berths in both cabins and a separate day head give guests real privacy.
Volvo D11 option: 725 hp with Slow Speed Mode adds performance and finer control in marinas.
Full-height helm door: quick access to the side deck helps when handling lines short-handed.
Configurable cockpit: choose dual aft seats or an aft-facing seat with integrated grill cabinet.
4. Summary
The Back Cove 412 is aimed at experienced cruising couples and families who want the largest, most accommodating boat in Back Cove's inboard range without moving to twin engines. She suits owners planning extended coastal voyages with guests aboard, who value classic Downeast styling, modern systems and easy handling.
