Boat Description
Crestliner 1650 Discovery SC: A Simple, Rugged Side-Console Aluminium Fishing Boat
1. General Information
The Crestliner 1650 Discovery SC is the side-console version of Crestliner's entry-level Discovery line, a no-nonsense 16-foot aluminium fishing boat built to get anglers on the water with minimum fuss. At 5.03 m overall with a 1.92 m beam, it carries up to five people and is rated for outboards from 25 to 60 hp, running from a portable fuel tank. A starboard console with wheel steering frees the stern from tiller duty while keeping the layout open for casting. Ideal for lakes, reservoirs and sheltered rivers, it suits early-morning panfish and walleye trips, bass fishing along weed lines or relaxed family outings. As an open day boat with no cabin, its focus is on fishability, storage and easy handling.
2. Construction and Design
The hull is a four-piece, all-welded marine-grade aluminium structure with a full-length welded keel, a 0.090-inch bottom, 0.080-inch sides and a 0.100-inch transom, finished in baked Armor-Guard paint. A variable deadrise of around 6 degrees and a 58-inch chine width give a stable platform at rest and a predictable ride on sheltered water, while the 21.5-inch cockpit depth keeps the crew secure. Extruded gunwales with Crestliner's SureMount accessory system make it easy to add rod holders and electronics. Weighing roughly 397 kg dry, the 1650 Discovery SC is light enough to tow behind a modest vehicle and launch single-handed.
3. Key Features
Starboard Side Console – No-feedback steering, rocker switch panel with circuit breakers, drink holders, phone storage and a 12V outlet.
Aerated Bow Livewell – An 11-gallon (approx. 42-litre) livewell keeps bait and catches lively.
Lockable Rod Storage – A centre in-floor locker for four rods plus a port quick-access rack keep tackle protected and close to hand.
SureMount Gunwale System – Integrated tracks for mounting rod holders, electronics and other accessories.
Practical Storage and Seating – Bow, stern and cockpit storage compartments, multiple pedestal seat bases and a reboarding ladder.
4. Summary
The Crestliner 1650 Discovery SC is aimed at freshwater anglers and families who want an affordable, durable aluminium boat with the comfort of console steering. It suits first-time owners stepping up from a jon boat or tiller, weekend multi-species anglers and anyone who values easy trailering, modest running costs and a tough welded hull that will last for years.
