The Lucia 40, designed by Berret-Raccoupeau Yacht Design, is the entry level catamaran of the current Fountaine Pajot range, an easy to handle catamaran for a couple that represents great value for money. The Fountaine Pajot Orana 44 is not a radical departure from the builder’s earlier boats, but it’s a significant evolutionary step. The new hardtop design, improved helm station, pleasant interior, and good sailing qualities add up to make a comfortable, swift cruiser.The hull is solid-glass laminate below the waterline, foam-cored from the waterline to the sheer, and entirely vacuum-bagged. The deck is balsa-cored glass laminate, laid up dry between two molds and then injected with resin. The hull and deck are bolted and adhered together. The interior furniture is plywood with a sycamore veneer. The floorboards all lift for easy bilge access to through-hull fittings and other systems, but they creak when walked on.

With the new Saba 50, Fountaine Pajot has optimized liveability and comfort both inside and out. Multiple groups of people can socialize in segregated outdoor spaces, while the interior accommodations would put some hotels to shame.The Saba 50 is a well-thought-out boat that feels substantially bigger than its LOA. A cruising cat of these dimensions can actually sail to weather, and quite impressively at that.Despite the boat’s size, designers Berret Racoupeau have worked hard to make it not only sail well, but remain easy to handle. The hulls, for example, have been given a fine entry for better performance, and a pair of fixed keels help the boat sail to weather. The focus in construction methods is on making the boat strong but light, with a vacuum-bagged PVC-foam-core laminate. Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) produces the whole deck and cabin as one piece with both sides sprayed with gelcoat for a finished look. The chainplates are integrated into the hull structure and are strong enough that the whole weight of the boat can be lifted on them.

Salina 48, a big boat for ocean cruising. Rounding up the new range for Fountaine Pajot, the Salina 48 gets its lines from Berret-Racoupeau and shares the decor updates and manufacturing technology advances employed in the Orana 44. Accommodations in the hulls are similarly arranged with three-or-four cabins while the saloon is turned through 90 degrees to take advantage of its great width.The elevated helm position gives the same view as a flying bridge but with easy access to both cockpit and side deck. A rigid roof covers the rest of the cockpit area, with its large lounge and table, but dedicated sun worshippers will find a spot on the platform that spans the dinghy davits between the hulls aft. Here’s a riddle: What is less than 50ft long, has two hulls, three big cabins and four decks? Answer: The Fountaine Pajot Saona 47. In fact, it may even be five levels if you count the large engine rooms. This boat is a “space craft” in every sense of the word.Fountaine Pajot’s boats never make radical jumps. Rather, they evolve from one design to the next. While not what I’d consider a “Mom and Pop” boat for an older couple, the Saona 47 is a spacious, fast cat that should be perfect for an active cruising family with teenagers, or charter groups who wish to entertain in style.&nbsp;The Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 maximizes living and entertaining space while retaining good speed by combining “multi-decking,” a minimum wetted surface and lots of flare at the chines. It’s tricky to put all that together, but the design staff at Berret Racoupeau have succeeded here, partly by extending the waterline to include integral stern platforms. The limitation will probably be loading—if the boat is carrying a lot of weight, the broader portions of the hulls will be submerged and performance is likely to suffer—but that’s each owner’s lookout.

Probably the best part of the new Funship other than its solid performance &nbsp;is its layout. The 234's comfortable layout has everyone facing each other, providing the perfect environment for carrying on conversations and just enjoying each other's company. All of the seating corners are rounded, which doesn't cost you seating capacity, but it sure makes sitting in the corners a lot more comfortable. The helm station has been modified to provide better visibility for both tall and short drivers. Both bucket seats have full-suspension, flip-up bolsters and a new adjustment system. The dash is accented with an attractive burled wood finish and separate Faria gauges surrounded by gold bezels, which replace the cluster of gauges featured in the previous models. The portside console has an enclosed head on one side and a well-appointed bow refreshment center on the other. Both are nice features to have on board a deckboat — though not necessarily adjacent to each other.

Key to the fun of the H230 RS and to all Four Winns models is the company’s proprietary Stable Vee hull. The hull holds utility and design patents, and essentially, it has three basic elements. The aft section of the boat is as wide as possible as far forward as possible, as is the deadrise angle, to enhance lateral stability. And for cornering and coming on plane, after pods provide “grip” in turns. A Stable Vee hull will turn as sharply and crisply as your nerve and your passengers will allow, which is handy if you ever have to make evasive emergency maneuvers. Hull dynamics aside, the H230RS offers families a great platform for getting out on the water. The boat is most often shown with the towing tower, which is an option. If you have kids they’re going to want to go wakeboarding, and they’re going to insist you check that box. They’ll probably ask for the premium sound system and tower speakers, too. The tower couldn’t be simpler to operate. Just remove two pins to fold it down to rest within the width of the wraparound windshield.

The Four Winns Horizon 350 OB offers wide-beam elbow room and all the space you’d want for two dayboating essentials: friends and coolers. The big, new Horizon is more seaworthy and sexier than a pontoon yet not nearly as fishy as a glammed-up center console, which are two other options if your main priority is simply fun in the sun.The OB on the end of model name stands for outboard but might as well stand for “only better.” By converting its Horizon 350 from sterndrive to outboard power, Four Winns has improved this boat in several ways. Performance of the OB version with twin 350 hp ­Mercury Verado motors is almost identical to the Horizon 350 we tested in 2015 with 760 sterndrive horsepower, with a top speed of 49.1 mph and best ­cruising economy of about 1.3 mpg. The big difference is sound level. Measured at the helm, the twin Verado outboards produce just 79 dBA at 4,500 rpm cruising speed compared to 90 dBA for the sterndrive boat at 3,500 rpm.&nbsp;Let’s also note that outboards can be tilted completely clear of the water at the dock to limit corrosion and marine growth. Servicing the engines is easier and less expensive. And there’s now a big empty space for dive tanks, floating toys or more coolers where the sterndrive engines used to be. Flip a switch and the aft seat section of the Horizon 350 OB lifts on rams to reveal a space 1 foot 6 inches deep to a flat floor, which has two hatches to reach 2 feet 6 inches deep to the finished bilge.

To starboard is an L-shaped settee with large, fixed table. The table doubles in size when opened to offer an enormous dining accommodation for at least eight guests! Her additional water tanks and water maker (PUR Power Survivor-80II) are beneath this seating area. These settees are upholstered in a light green with subtle, variegated stripe. All her lighting fixtures have been upgraded to LED fixtures. There are central lights mounted in her headliner and multiple reading lights throughout.&nbsp;
To port and aft of the salon settee is her galley. She's fit for a gourmet chef and easily utilized while underway. 'Joyous' is outfitted with a large fridge, separate freezer, microwave (Spacemaker III), impressively large stainless steel sink, fresh water/ drinking water filter, ample storage and a spice rack!&nbsp;
Following aft and to starboard is her dedicated navigation station. She is comprised of a very large chart table with ample desk space for doing far more than chart work. In this day and age of remote work 'Joyous' is uniquely outfitted for ease of use! Her marine electronics are above at the navigation station, as well as a set of desk drawers- fitting pentaflex files! 'Joyous' is outfitted with a analog clock, barometer, wind indicator, iCOM VHF (IC-M504), Furino and Garmin Radar (GPSmap 5208), AIS, and SSB radio, and wi-fi booster. 'Joyous' is outfitted with a Whaler water heater as well.&nbsp;
Her V-berth or guest cabin is forward. Outfitted with a marine head with dual access, to act as both a day and en-suite to the v-berth accommodations. There is ample stowage beneath the berth in two large drawers and shelving outboard to both port and starboard. This forward cabin is also outfitted with a hanging locker and an additional set of bureau drawers to port. There is a large overhead hatch for natural ventilation and light and three opening hull-side ports.&nbsp;Centerline and below her companionway stairs is her 66hp, Yanmar diesel engine (model 4JH-HTBE). She is outfitted with twin fuel filters.&nbsp;The forward head is to starboard, outfitted with a shower. There is a marine toilet, vanity with fresh water sink, mirror and ample storage. Overhead is another deck hatch for natural ventilation.&nbsp;
Primary stateroom or master is aft through a comfortable wide passageway. She is home to an impressively sized, centerline, walk-around queen berth and en-suite head. This primary stateroom provides ample storage as well, comprised of numerous drawers, small and large locker spaces and additional stowage beneath the berth.&nbsp;The ensuite, aft head even has a full length mirror! She is outfitted with a marine head, shower, vanity with fresh water sink, medicine cabinet and teak grated sole.&nbsp;
