Boat Description
The Sensation 1360 luxury catamaran is a semi-displacement power catamaran design, following a more traditional style in comparison to some of the more modern power designs such as the Growler Series. The bows have been kept quite square and sharp, and the cabin features large wrap around windows and angular styling. The foredeck runs forward to the front of the bridgedeck providing a wide spacious area for sunbathing, enjoying a glass of champagne or giving storage space for dinghy or other cruising toys.
The layout is open plan and offers a surprising amount of interior space and accommodation due to the Sensation 1360 luxury catamaran’s wide hulls—significantly wider than that of her Alaskan sisters. This extra width does allow a little more freedom when configuring the layout and combats the ‘stuffy’ enclosed feeling that being down in the hull can bring.
Flat wide transoms give excellent access for boarding from the dinghy, and when unloading shopping or other bulky items. A slim curved duckboard runs behind the cockpit seating, and again this can be useful for swimming and loading or unloading. Dinghy storage is usually another option for the duckboard however the 1360 offers quite a bit of deck area aft on the flybridge where a small crane could stow the dinghy safely. The cockpit table is situated to port, with L-shaped seating keeping much of the cockpit clear and open.
Saloon access is via central doors, with large drop-down windows either side to ensure the outside and inside areas blend together to create one large living and entertaining space. The cockpit features a head and shower, situated underneath the stairs leading to the flybridge. This head could be used for guests, and fresh water rinsing after swimming. Moving up onto the flybridge, you will find ample wrap-around seating and a stand-alone helm station with driver’s seat. Aft is the dinghy storage, with crane. The uninterrupted 360 degree visibility allows easier docking and anchoring, or when chasing those big fish!
Inside the Sensation 1360 luxury catamaran really shines, with a practical and common sense layout that gets the most out of the space available. The layout is a little different as the galley has been located lengthways along the bridgedeck, giving plentiful bench space and plenty of room for sink, cooktop, oven, and other appliances. The U-shape is also easier to work in when at sea, as the benches on either side can be used for stability while standing. The saloon table and seating is located to port, and pushed back against the bulkhead with a second bench seat forward under the cabin windows. The saloon table and cockpit table are now close to each other and food & drinks could be passed through the open window, and this should feel like a single large space when socialising or entertaining rather than two separate areas.
From the galley a split stairway descends into the starboard hull with one of the two main head/showers located between the stairs and featuring dual access from both fore and aft cabins. The aft cabin features a double berth, large hatches for light and ventilation as well as ample storage lockers. Forward beyond the head and shower is another larger cabin, with a symmetrical cabin to starboard. These cabins feature queen sized berths with room on either side to get in and out of bed, and twin stairs leading to it. The forward cabins are large and spacious complete with hanging lockers and a generous vanity area forward of the bulkhead. Aft in the port hull is another private head and separate shower.
The Sensation 1360 luxury catamaran is available as a pre-cut kit and uses the same construction techniques as other Schionning designs. Duflex panels with an end-grain balsa core are recommended, although foam core is an option if desired. Our pre-cut kits come flat packed, with 2400×1200 sheets joined edge to edge using scarf joins to create full size panels. The majority of the construction is taping the panels and parts in place, and using the flat panels reduces fairing over traditional strip-planking.
Fuel tanks are an owners choice however the 1360 can comfortably carry 3000 litres, split over 2 tanks one in each hull to spread the weight. She will be able to cross oceans easily (reserves may be needed for the longer ocean voyages) and if intended for coastal cruising the tanks could be kept smaller to allow additional payload for toys and luxuries. Water capacity is estimated at 400 litres but can be increased if bound for blue water cruising and longer extended trips to remote areas, although a water maker is usually recommended.
The Sensation 1360 luxury catamaran is a modern, practical power catamaran design that can sleep up to 6 comfortably, with room for extra guests if need be. She is safe and comfortable, with excellent sea-keeping ability and a high bridgedeck to eliminate any slamming in heavy seas. Whether coastal cruising or headed for blue water—you can’t go past the Sensation 1360 luxury catamaran.
