Hartley Boats embodies the rich legacy of sailing excellence, propelled by a passion for innovation and craftsmanship. Founded by Kestrel enthusiasts, this Derby-based boat builder has, since 1998, invigorated iconic designs with modern features, blending tradition with state-of-the-art engineering.
The Hartley journey began with two sailing enthusiasts' unwavering dedication to revitalizing the Kestrel. Their collaborations with Phil Morrison and the Kestrel Class Association have since elevated the boat to contemporary prominence. Hartley Boats has charted a course of continuous evolution, from enhancing the Supernova and the pioneering Mk4 Osprey to adopting and updating timeless Ian Proctor designs such as the Wayfarer, Wanderer, and Gull dinghies.
Hartley's repertoire boasts 14 distinct boat models, each tailored to distinct sailing pleasures—from the adrenaline rush of high-performance single-handers to the steadfast comfort of family-friendly cruisers. With a standing reputation for producing some of the most stable sailing dinghies, Hartley caters to training centres, naval fleets, and holiday resorts worldwide, underscored by their rota-moulded fleet including the Alpha, H10, H12, H122, and H15.
The turn of the millennium saw Hartley Boats' expansion into rota-moulded designs, pioneering a new norm in stability and control for budding sailors. This tangible commitment to sailing's future is epitomized by their collaborations with Peter Hobson, which have propelled boats like the Hartley Blaze and the Contender to the forefront of speed and sleek aesthetics.
