Yamaha launched the WaveRunner 500 in 1986, the world's first sit-down personal watercraft with an open stern. Four decades later, WaveRunner remains Yamaha's personal watercraft line, bringing recreational, performance and fishing models together in a single range.
The range is organised into series. The EX Series arrived in 2017 as a lightweight, affordable entry point. The VX Series is the recreational all-rounder and has long been Yamaha's top seller. The FX Series is the premium luxury-performance line, and the GP Series is the race-inspired line with World Championship-winning credentials. The affordable JetBlaster series is a recent addition.
FX and GP models use large four-stroke marine engines, including the supercharged and intercooled 1.8-litre SVHO and a 1.9-litre naturally aspirated HO engine that Yamaha describes as the largest in the industry. The VX Series offers RiDE dual-throttle controls, and the FX JetFish adds a dedicated fishing package with a RecDeck, Garmin fish finder and GPS.
